For a Brooklyn-based family, a lakeside cabin away from the city acts as a safe haven where they can connect, relax, and enjoy the outdoors. To make the house reflect this, they called on Thom Filicia to reinvent the retreat, giving it a relaxed yet sophisticated feel.

Located on Connecticut’s Candlewood Lake, the waterfront home features five bedrooms and five bathrooms that span approximately 3,000 square feet over three floors. “We wanted to celebrate the bones of the home and the vernacular of the location, which the owners have fallen in love with, while giving the home an updated quality of life and a fresh, uncluttered style that matches the lifestyle. of the young family during their retirement at the lake, ”specifies the creator.

Throughout the American cottage-style home, Filicia and her team have incorporated furnishings and finishes in rich, cool earth tones that pay homage to the serene retreat landscape. In the kitchen, Benjamin Moore’s Philipsburg Blue painted cabinetry, paired with textured stools and industrial accents, all give off a casual and inviting look. Geometric patterns, like the painted floor in the family room and patterns, like the hand-carved fish bedside tables in the guest bedroom, add intrigue.

The charming abode now embodies the family’s love for the outdoors and the setting for the house’s storybook. On the summer and weekend getaway, they can play board games, rest after a long day of water sports, or simply admire a panoramic view of the lake. “It works like a big house but feels genuinely comfortable,” Filicia gushes.
