KOLKATA: The leading warship builder Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd (GRSE) on Tuesday delivered the ICGS Kanaklata Barua, the fifth and final ship in the Fast Patrol Vessels (FPV) series for the Indian Coast Guard, has said an official here. This is the 105th ship delivered by the Defense PSU shipyard based on the banks of the Hooghly River here.

GRSE had previously delivered ICGS Priyadarshini, ICGS Annie Besant and ICGS Amrit Kaur FPVs in this series to the Indian Coast Guard, he said in a statement.

The fourth vessel in the FPV series is intended for export delivery to the Seychelles coastguard and is expected to be delivered shortly after the completion of related formalities, GRSE said.

The warship builder will build another vessel for the ICG to replace the one diverted to the Seychelles Coast Guard and related contract signing formalities with modifications to the current one are underway and will be completed shortly , did he declare.

The fast patrol boats, which were entirely designed by GRSE’s central design office, can reach speeds of over 34 knots with endurance of over 1,500 nautical miles, the statement said.

These fuel-efficient and powerful platforms are well suited for operations such as patrolling, combating smuggling, combating poaching and rescue, GRSE said.

Equipped with a 40/60 mm gun as the main armament, these ships have improved habitability characteristics with fully air-conditioned modular accommodation for 35 people, the statement added.
