MANILA: Bentley Motors and The Macallan have unveiled the unique design of The Macallan Horizon, the first limited edition single malt whiskey from the brand’s collaboration.

KEY POINTS TO REMEMBER

  • What are the durable materials used for the arms of the 3D structure?

The arms of the 3D structure are made of recycled copper from disused and curiously small stills located in the former distillery of The Macallan, aluminum from the production of the Continental GT, Flying Spur and Bentayga in Crewe, in England, recycled wood from both brands, and the lowest CO2 leather from Scotland.

  • When will The Macallan Horizon launch?

The Macallan Horizon will be launched in the summer of 2023.

  • The Macallan Horizon prototype features traditional craftsmanship, durable materials and a unique horizontal design. It symbolizes the common goal of both brands to develop a sustainable future.

“Our prototype for The Macallan Horizon is truly pioneering in both its design and use of materials. It is an amalgamation of the sharply contoured yet curvaceous Bentley design DNA, the innovation from The Macallan and recycled materials from two iconic British brands. The form of the design allowed us to treat light as a material in itself, and the interplay between lightweight, recycled wood, aluminum and copper is extraordinary. By being both an object of beauty in itself and having such strong elements of sustainability, it’s a representation of what comes next from our partnership,” said Chris Cooked, Director of Product and Style Design life of Bentley Motors.

The Macallan Horizon is made from six unique, ethically sourced materials, representing the six pillars of The Macallan, the cornerstones of the brand.

The unique design of The Macallan Horizon is derived from the horizontal trajectory of a car, instead of the traditional vertical shape of a whiskey bottle. The ship is positioned horizontally in a cradle, without a base.

The handmade glass bottle in the center is uniquely twisted 180 degrees, symbolizing the mastery of space and time acquired by the two brands in the development of the prototype.

The single malt whiskey crafted for release in 2023 also has its own sustainability story.

    The Macallan Horizon

“Drawing inspiration from the automotive industry, we present our creative development of The Macallan Horizon, which is among the most groundbreaking projects we have undertaken in our 200-year history. Working with Bentley Motors has inspired us to see things differently. In the whiskey world, everything is standing, like our stills and our bottles. When we looked at the horizontal direction that Bentley Motors was pursuing within the automotive industry, it made us wonder if and how we could adapt this format for whiskey, which ultimately needs to be poured,” said the director. Macallan’s global creative, Jaume Ferras. “I am incredibly proud of the groundbreaking design we have created for The Macallan Horizon and the unique sustainable materials we incorporate as part of our commitment to a better world. This simply wouldn’t be possible without the unrivaled craftsmanship and creativity for which The Macallan and Bentley Motors are renowned, and which embody the uncompromising excellence sought by The Macallan since 1824.”

In 2021, Bentley Motors and The Macallan formed their partnership which is united by their commitment to craftsmanship and sustainability.
